A Virginia native, calling Hampton Roads home for 31 years, Cynthia Cadieux, PhD, RDN, FAND, joined EVMS in 2015 as Assistant Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Program Review.  She also serves in the School of Health Professions as the Director of the Master of Medical and Health Professions Education online program and the Doctoral Program in Medical and Health Professions Education.  She serves as the Director of Distance Education and the Nutrition Thread Director for the CareForward UME Curriculum.  Prior to coming to EVMS, Dr. Cadieux served as Academic Dean of Languages, Mathematics and Sciences on the Chesapeake campus of Tidewater Community College from August 2010 to November 2014 where she had direct oversight of 30 disciplines, the Learning Assistance Center, and developmental education.  From August 2004 to December 2009, Dr. Cadieux was an Assistant Professor of Dietetics at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  During her time at JMU, Dr. Cadieux also directed the nationally accredited Dietetic Internship program, a component of the graduate program in health sciences/nutrition. 

Dr. Cadieux has been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) since 1989.  She became a Fellow of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND) in 2014.  In the early 1990s, Dr. Cadieux worked as the administrative/clinical dietitian at Westminster Canterbury Retirement Center in Virginia Beach before moving on to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to become a burn/trauma dietitian specializing as a Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian.  While at Sentara, she became the Clinical Nutrition Manager overseeing patient nutrition care for the hospital.  

As Assistant Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Program Review, Dr. Cadieux is involved in helping EVMS maintain regional accreditation and assists academic programs in assessment and evaluation efforts to ensure rigorous program and student-learning outcomes are achieved. 

Dr. Cadieux received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics and a Master’s of Science degree in Health Sciences/Nutrition at James Madison University.  She earned a PhD in Urban Services/Urban Education with a cognate in Technology from Old Dominion University in 2002.  She also holds two career studies academic certificates:  Gerontology Studies and Character Education.  She has a Certificate of Training in Obesity Interventions for Adults from the Commission on Dietetic Registration and a Certificate of Training in Culinary Nutrition.  Research interests include educational research on topics such as the study of sense of community, especially in the online classroom and micro-learning.
