The most common symptoms of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, are fever and cough. Some people also report difficulty breathing, more rarely sore throat, muscle aches, and abdominal discomfort. These symptoms are non-specific and can also be due to many other illnesses.
If you should experience any of these symptoms and think this is a life-threatening matter, call 911 or go to the closest Emergency Room. If you do not think your symptoms are life-threatening, DO NOT GO to a clinic or hospital without first calling your primary-care provider.
It is also important to share with healthcare providers if you have recently traveled internationally or have had close contact with someone who has traveled internationally and is now sick, or if you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19.
At EVMS Medical Group, our goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, families, visitors and staff. During this respiratory infection season, we are taking necessary precautions to keep everyone at our offices safe. To keep the rest of our patients, families and staff safe from a possible exposure to the COVID-19, we are limiting visitors to patients and one caregiver per patient only.
When you are scheduling an appointment with an EVMS Medical Group practice, please let us know the following:
- If you have a respiratory illness with a fever, cough or shortness of breath and have recently travelled internationally
- If you have had close contact with someone who travelled internationally and is now sick
- If you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19
Together, we will determine the safest screening method for you.
