Managers should observe the Communicable Disease Policy linked below. If an employee needs screening, the employee should call Occupational Health at 757.446.5870 (do not report in person). Managers should ensure that the individual’s work area is properly cleansed.

As EVMS continues to monitor COVID-19, compensated faculty and staff should review the following workplace policies and guidance. Be aware that this information likely will change as the situation evolves and more becomes known. Questions may be directed to Human Resources at 757.446.6043.

DO NOT REPORT TO WORK if you experience symptoms of COVID-19 (i.e., cough, fever, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing), have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or have been in close proximity with someone diagnosed with or suspected of having COVID-19. Employees must contact Human Resources immediately and notify their direct supervisor they will be out. Human Resources will also follow up with supervisors after speaking with the employee.

Due to the activation of the continuity of operations plan, departments may approve remote work. If remote work is approved, managers must provide a list to HR identifying the employees working remotely.

Another resource is Child Care Aware of Virginia (1-866-KIDSTLC). This site provides up-to-the-minute information on which child care and family day homes are open.

Preparing for remote work

EVMS is reviewing alternative work arrangements, including telecommuting and working remotely, while recognizing that some work must continue on campus. If appropriate, you should inventory your needs to work remotely and be prepared to institute that as soon as you are notified of changes.

  • Telework and Remote Work Policy
  • Remember to take your devices (laptop, phone, tablet) home with you each day.
  • Ensure your personal devices are secure. Check with the Network Center (comphelp@evms.edu) if you are uncertain.
  • If you are asked to work remotely and you need access to network resources, make sure to test your VPN connection or request one from the Network Center (comphelp@evms.edu).
  • EVMS has instituted dual factor authentication to access Outlook Webmail. If you have not downloaded and registered for the DUO software application, contact the Network Center (comphelp@evms.edu).
  • Contact Telecommunications telehelp@evms.edu if you need to attange to have phones forwarded offsite.

EVMS provides BlueJeans as an institutional service for teleconferencing as an alternative to in-person meetings. This guide contains information on how to request use of the service and how to setup your virtual meetings. BlueJeans Resource 03-18-2020 

There is a team of seasoned online faculty, instructional designers and instructional technologists on standby to help with this transition.

There is a Rapid Online Course Conversion website (EVMS login required) to assist with the transition. There you will find videos, webinars and guides to get started and troubleshoot most problems.

The fastest way for faculty to get help is to complete a service request ticket accessible through the Faculty Resources tab in Blackboard or the Sharepoint site.

Health and Wellbeing

  • Practice and promote good hygiene. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • Lower your risk at meetings and events. Avoid gatherings of 25 or more, do not shake hands and encourage phone or video conferencing whenever possible.
  • The Employee Assistance Program can provide counseling and other resources to help employees deal with mental health issues and a wide range of other employee issues.
  • Many people are experiencing stress and anxiety as a result of COVID-19. Remember that EVMS health plans offer comprehensive coverage for both physical and mental health care. EVMS also encourages self-care during these stressful times. Remember that sleep and exercise promote immune system capacity.
