Preparing for a Virtual Interview

  • Identify a Suitable Environment
    • Choose a private, quiet, well-lit space where you can complete the interview.
    • Consider the backdrop you will use during your interview, and try to keep it neat and free of distractions.
    • Have an outlet nearby in case you need to plug in your device.
  • Practice Using Technology
    • Ensure you have video capability.
    • Check your microphone and camera to make sure they’re working well and that both the picture and sound are good quality.
    • Check your internet connection.
    • Download and familiarize yourself with any necessary software. 
  • Familiarize yourself with Interview Materials.
    • Review each student’s CV.
    • Review interview questions.

Day of Interview

  • Perform a technology test.
  • Join the interview at least 10 minutes before the interview starts.
  • Have all relevant interview materials at hand for easy reference.

Conducting the Interview

  • Welcome the student in a friendly manner.
  • Confirm the applicant can both see and hear you.
  • Introduce yourself, giving your name and title.
  • Ask the interview questions provided. Avoid questions that may be prohibited by law. These are questions about protected groups, like any demographic information, disabilities, and family military, or criminal history.
  • Each interview will be 30 minutes. There will be a notification when there is 10 minutes remaining. Interviews will end promptly at 30 minutes.
  • Complete and submit the student evaluation form (within 48 hours of the interview). Be honest and detailed with your comments and provide additional feedback as needed for student success.
