Ingolf A. Türk, M.D.Visiting Professor of Urology

Dr. Türk was born on 05 September 1961 in Guben, East Germany. After he graduated from high school in Berlin (1980), he served in the military for
one and a half years. From 1983 to 1989, Dr. Türk attended Medical School at Humboldt University in East Berlin and graduated with a Licensure as a Medical Practitioner. He completed a
five-year urology residency training in 1994 at the Charite Hospital of the Humboldt University in Berlin. During this time, he was ward physician for the division of pediatric urology, renal transplantation, endourology and stone treatment, and
the division of oncology.
In 1994, Dr. Türk received certification by the German Board of Urology.
Following this, he became a Faculty Member in the Department of Urology and was involved in supervising the urology residency rotation at the Charite Hospital. He has been actively involved in the training of the medical students as well as giving lectures on Urology. In 1997, Dr. Türk was appointed Associate Professor of Urology at the
Charite Hospital
and Section Chief of Minimally Invasive Urology. He took a leadership role in the progress of laparoscopy in Urology in Germany, particularly in Uro-oncology.
Dr. Türk is a member of the Section of Minimally Invasive Therapy of the Urological Association of Germany, has published papers on laparoscopic urological surgery, and has organized international seminars and training courses on laparoscopy.
Dr. Türk's research interests are in the role of laparoscopy in the treatment of urological cancers, particularly of renal, prostate and bladder cancer. Since June 1999, he has performed over 120 laparoscopic radical prostatectomies. In March 2000, Dr. Türk created a technique for laparoscopic radical cystectomy with continent urinary diversion. This was the first case worldwide
where this procedure was performed completely laparoscopic intracorporally.
