2008-2009 Student Health Insurance

EVMS continues its partnership with Aetna Student Health, formerly the Chickering Group, to offer students a comprehensive Student Health Insurance Plan. Underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance, it is an affordable, student-centered plan that protects students at school, at home, and while traveling or studying abroad.

EVMS has a hard waiver policy regarding student health insurance. This means that you MUST maintain major medical insurance coverage (see student handbook). You must submit a waiver form by September 24, 2008.

If a waiver form, along with proof of health insurance, is not submitted by September 24, 2008, you will be automatically enrolled in the Aetna plan.

If you are currently covered by your own private health insurance, but your insurance will be expiring soon due to a life-changing event, complete the Health Insurance Enrollment Form PDF file. The premiums are described in the chart below. You may also use this to enroll your dependents (spouse and/or child(ren).

The waiver process is only available online:

  1. Go to the Aetna Student Health Web site
  2. Click Students and find your school
  3. Enter School name or policy number (#100107)
  4. Click on Eastern Virginia Medical School
  5. Click Insurance selection
  6. Click the phrase that reads: Please click here to waive the Annual 2008 Student Health Insurance Plan.

If you opt out, please provide the Office of Student Affairs with a copy of your private insurance card, front and back. Remember the waiver process will not be complete until I have received a copy of your card verifying alternative medical insurance coverage. You may provide proof it to the Office of Student Affairs via fax at (757) 446-5817, by mail, or in person.

To all new students and first timers to the world of Chickering, It is recommended that you surf the site to become familiar with the policy.
