The Professional Staff
The Sleep
Disorders Center is staffed by medical professionals who specialize in the diagnosis and
treatment of sleep disorders, particularly snoring, sleep apnea, and insomnia. These sleep
specialists work with patients to find the causes and solutions to these and other sleep
problems that may be affecting your job performance, risk for accidents,
mood, or self-esteem.
Doctors in the DSM are truly "sleep
specialists" with extensive training in sleep disorders and related conditions. They
also are physician educators, as faculty members at Eastern Virginia Medical
School (EVMS) and have appointments in such diverse departments of Internal Medicine,
Pathology, Otolaryngology, and Psychiatry. Additionally, the DSM staff maintain close ties to
patients' clinical needs, with their offices and clinical facilities located at Sentara
Norfolk General Hospital and Sentara Bayside Hospital.
DSM staff are also "sleep
scientists," continually researching sleep problems and medications. Many times, our
patients are
the first to benefit from innovative techniques and medications developed to treat their
own problems.
