Security Alerts: Off-Campus Armed Robbery
On Wednesday night, around 11 p.m., a
tenant who lives in the apartment complex located NEXT DOOR to the Hague
Club Apartments was robbed at gunpoint.
Now that the days are shorter and the
holiday season is upon us, please keep the following safety tips in
mind.
Safety Tips
- Avoid blind corners. Make wide
turns so you will have the time and space to react to what is ahead.
- Never wear a headset while running
or walking. It eliminates hearing as a defense mechanism.
- Be aware of your surroundings when
using an ATM, writing check or making a credit card purchase. Keep
track of who’s behind you and always be aware of camera phones.
- Plan your travel route and be sure
not to take short cuts through parks, vacant lots, or unlit areas.
- If you suspect you are being
followed, cross the street and go to the nearest home or open
business.
- When returning home, if you notice
that your windows or doors have been tampered with, leave the
residence immediately. Go to a neighbor’s home and call 911.
- Always lock first and second floor
windows and draw window shades after dark.
- Before entering your vehicle,
check the back seat to make sure no one is hiding inside your car.
- Use marked crosswalks when
crossing any street.
- Remember to wear your EVMS ID
while on campus and please remind visitors to sign in.
- When using public transportation,
sit near other passengers and tell the bus driver if someone bothers
you.
- Visit the
Campus Security Web Page to
obtain additional security and safety information.
REMEMBER: EVMS Campus Security, 446-5199, provides escorts, 24/7
365, to the Hague Club Apartments and all flat lots and parking
