Grants & Contracts: Submission Policies

All grants and contracts must be submitted to the Office of Research for pre-award review and approval. This review is necessary, regardless of the funding source.

When to Submit?

Investigators should contact the Office of Research three weeks in advance to discuss:

These requirements vary according to the type of funding proposal and funding source.

Prepared proposals must be submitted no later than three business days prior to the proposal submission deadline. If a signature is required by the Institutional Financial Officer (as for all contracts and subcontracts), proposals must be submitted no later than five business days prior to the deadline.

Office of Research (OR) Checklist

The OR Checklist summarizes information from the proposal, including:

  • Budgetary information
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Contractual features
  • Signatures (see below)
  • Significant Financial Interest Disclosure Form

All key personnel on a project must complete and sign a separate Significant Financial Interest Disclosure Form, indicating the amount of their financial interest in the proposed project. This form also requires the signature of the Department Chair.

Required signatures for the OR Checklist include:

  • Departmental Chair - certifies that the project contains sound scientific merit, and that resources and facilities will be available to conduct the project.
  • Associate Dean for Office of Research - certifies that the investigator is in compliance with relevant institutional requirements (e.g., appropriate committee approvals, budgetary calculations, etc.).
