Chemical Hygiene Plan
This course is required for all personnel working in any laboratory on the EVMS campus. The course is two hours long and topics include:
- General Laboratory Safety
- Hazard Recognition
- Proper Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Storage of Chemicals
- Signs and Labels
- Waste Disposal
Radiation Safety
This course is required for all laboratory personnel that receive, possess, use or transfer sources of radiation, have hands-on use of radioactive materials, or frequently enter restricted areas.There is required homework and a proficiency exam at the end of the course. Course participants are expected to supply their own scientific calculator and be able to complete calculations involving basic algebra and natural log. The course is seven-hours long and is usually delivered in two half-day sessions.The course topics include:
- Principles and Practices of Radiation Safety
- Regulatory Requirements
- Institutional Specific Requirements
- Hands-On Use of Geiger and Scintillation Counters
