    • Bio:
    • Kim Moloney earned her nursing degree from Radford University. Teaching patients has always been a big part of her job. She worked on a surgical floor providing patient care and pre op and post op education. She learned that if patients know what to expect (and what is expected of them), their hospital stays went better. After having her children, she began working for Portsmouth Health Department in Home Health. This experience really opened her eyes to many different home environments and income levels. She was amazed how some people did so much with so little, but it also made me take a "practical approach" to patient care. I also started a group diabetes education class for the medical clinic patients. While working in Portsmouth, she became involved with the formation EVADE (Eastern Virginia Association of Diabetes Educators). Eileen Althouse, RN was also one of the founding members. Through this group, she was offered a position at the Diabetes Institutes (now the Strelitz Diabetes Center) in 1989... and never looked back! Her primary job continues to be education, and she tries to make learning fun since having a chronic condition is far from fun. She enjoys giving patients the "tools" they need to live their best life.
