Educational Goals and Objectives for the
Genitourinary Radiology Rotation
GU Radiology is combined with GI
Radiology; evaluation of the scrotum and much of female pelvic
pathology is covered in the US rotation. The following goals and
objectives should be used in the evaluation of residents rotating
through GU Radiology. Competency by PGY level should be based on
these criteria:
PGY I
-
Resident should understand the risks
and indications for using low osmolar contrast media and the basics
of how to treat a contrast reaction

Able to interpret KUB, understand
components of IVU and findings of urinary obstruction
-
Able to fluoroscopie for HSG and
interpret HSG
-
Able to locate web sites with teaching
files and understand renal cystic dz
-
Understand ALARA
PGY II
-
All the above and able to perform HSG
-
Modify IVU to answer a clinical or
radiographic question
-
Perform cystograms/loop-o-grams,
retrograde urethrogram, with direct attending supervision
-
Describe diagnostic tests and
understand how to work up a GU abnormality
-
Understand Bosniak classification, ddx
of renal and urothelial and bladder masses
-
Evaluate female pelvic masses, uterine
and adnexal pathologies
PGY III
-
All the above and able to perform
procedures and modify protocols of exams without direct attending
supervision

Understand adrenal lesions including
biochemistry of functional lesions
-
Effectively communicate emergent and
urgent findings
-
Effectively explain purpose of tests to
patients
PGY IV
-
All of the above and understand and
discuss differential of renal calcifications and masses, workup of
hydronephrosis, ureteral and uroepithelial lesions and strictures

Able to discuss differential diagnosis
of retroperitoneal processes
- Describe and perform all
fluoroscopically directed exams while limiting radiation exposure
