Educational Goals and Objectives for the
Breast Imaging Rotation
The following goals and objectives
should be used in the evaluation of residents rotating through Breast
Imaging. Competency by PGY level should be based on these criteria.
PGY I
-
Able to detect mammographic abnormalities in most cases
-
Able to
determine whether breast lesion is cystic or solid on US
-
Able to
dictate using correct terminology and apply correct Birads code
-
Provides compassionate and ethical care
-
Communicates effectively
-
Able to perform wire localization with help
-
Able to locate Web sites with teaching
files
PGY II
-
All the above and able to detect subtle mammographic
abnormalities
-
Able to identify calcifications as clearly benign,
clearly malignant, or indeterminate
-
Able to utilize additional views
to determine position of lesion in the breast
-
Able to perform wire
localization without help
-
Able to perform US guided procedures
with help
PGY III
-
All the above and able to determine appropriate follow-up or
intervention
-
Familiar with breast pathologies
-
Able to identify
abnormalities on breast MRI
PGY IV
-
All above and familiar with criteria for credentialing of
mammographic centers
-
Able to assess the technical adequacy
and modify exams as needed for Quality Improvement
-
Perform breast interventions without
assistance
