Ultrasound Symposium

Hundreds of medical professionals from across the country gather this month for the 20th Annual Mid-Atlantic Ultrasound Symposium in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The two-day event, sponsored by EVMS Continuing Medical Education and EVMS Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Fetal Cardiovascular Center, will be held Nov. 10 and 11 in Virginia Beach.

Obstetricians, gynecologists, radiologists, family medicine physicians, genetic counselors, sonographers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, residents, medical students and other interested allied health professionals take part in 25 classes, ranging from ultrasound diagnosis to fetal cardiac function.

“This is a great opportunity for clinicians to advance their knowledge on this rapidly evolving technology,” says Alfred Abuhamad, MD, the Mason C. Andrews Chair In Obstetrics and Gynecology, Vice Dean of Clinical Affairs, and Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “It’s exciting to see so many medical professionals interested in ultrasound, which EVMS has made a priority in research, training and clinical care.”

In addition to lectures, this year’s event includes several live-scanning experiences. These allow attendees to observe EVMS faculty members performing ultrasound examinations on pregnant women to illustrate how to survey anatomy and evaluate the fetal heart.
