EVMS makes top medical school listing in two categories
EVMS has earned spots in two top-100 listings of the nation’s best medical schools.
For the first time, EVMS is listed among the nation’s top medical schools for research in the annual ranking by U.S. News and World Report. EVMS comes in at number 89 in the survey of all 177 allopathic and osteopathic U.S. medical schools.
“Many thanks and congratulations to all of the EVMS researchers who have advanced the academic reputation of EVMS at the national level,” says Richard V. Homan, MD, EVMS President and Provost and Dean of the School of Medicine. “This is a wonderful testament to their extraordinary work to discover new knowledge and advance biomedical research.”
In the second ranking revealed March 20, 2018, EVMS ranks at number 53 among the best medical schools for primary care.
“Primary care serves as the backbone of our medical system,” Dr. Homan says. “Without primary care physicians, there would be no continuity or coordination of care. The ranking reflects the collaborative culture of EVMS, which attracts students with a passion for patient care and community health. Students who choose primary care specialties often are drawn by the opportunity to develop professionally rewarding relationships with their patients.”
The rankings are calculated, in part, based on assessments from deans, residency directors and other top academic officers. The research listing also takes into account the level of research activity, while the primary care listing weighs the percentage of graduates entering primary care over the last three years.
