Thank you for taking time to visit the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) Police and Public Safety website. I am extremely proud to be a part of this growing department. EVMS Police and Public Safety is a state-accredited law enforcement agency established to provide the highest degree of safety and security possible for the EVMS community. We currently employ 58 officers (a combination of police officers, public safety officers, and emergency telecommunicators). These officers provide twenty-four, hour round the clock patrol and protection of the campus and immediate surrounding area. We are committed to the prevention of crime and the protection of life and property. Our department is located at 700 West Olney Road on the First Floor of Lewis Hall. We also have a satellite office in the Staff Parking Garage off Fairfax Avenue. The Police and Public Safety Department is responsible for law enforcement, security and emergency response at EVMS. Additionally, we are responsible for providing services to meet the needs of our EVMS community. Some of these services include:
To report a crime or a security emergency while on campus, call the Police and Public Safety Department at 757-446-5911. Our non-emergency number is 757-446-5199. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires EVMS to distribute an annual security/fire safety report to all current faculty, staff, and students. This report will not only provide you with statistics for crime activity in and around the campus community, but also information on how you can be proactive about your personal safety. In addition to crime statistics for the previous three years, this report contains information about the EVMS Police and Public Safety Department; EVMS emergency and security policies; crime reporting and prevention; sexual assault; fire safety at Hague Club Apartments; and other security/safety topics of concern to the EVMS community. You may also obtain a paper copy of this report by emailing Police and Public Safety at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please take time to view the 2011 Annual Security/Fire Safety Report.pdf for a comprehensive overview of related services, policies and data. In addition, if you are a student residing at Hague Club Apartments who would like to designate a confidential contact in the event you are reported missing, please fill out the Confidential Contact Form. The EVMS Police and Public Safety Department is committed to making the EVMS campus a safe and secure environment for teaching, discovering, caring, please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
