Ophthalmic Technology Program

Curriculum

Sixty college credits at the junior and senior level are earned during this 22-month Ophthalmic Technology program. All program graduates earn a certificate of completion from Eastern Virginia Medical School and Old Dominion University.

Together with the appropriate prerequisites, the graduate may earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree that is awarded by Old Dominion University.

Certificate Program Only
For those students wishing to pursue only the certificate in Ophthalmic Technology, the same OPHS courses are required as the ODU/BSHS program. All OPHS classes are clinical requirements of EVMS. For a list of OPHS courses and class descriptions, please refer to OPHS course link.

Graduates earning the certificate or the certificate with BSHS are eligible to sit for national written and practical board exams sponsored by the Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
