Description:

The EVMS Microscopy and lmaging Facility provides technical assistance and training in microscopy and image analysis to all faculty, staff and students of the Medical School. The Facility is equipped (1) upright and inverted fluorescence microscopes with a digital camera; (2) a Zeiss 510 Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope, with 3 lasers and a META system, which employs spectral signature analysis to separate up to 8 fluorochromes with highly overlapping emission spectra; (3) a JEOL 1200EXll transmission electron microscope with an AMT XR111 digital camera for ultrastructural examination of biological tissue. The clinical histology laboratory in the Department of Dermatology is fully equipped to process and section biological specimens for electron microscopy, The Facility and EVMS have six computers equipped with image analysis software (MetaMorph) and the director provides assistance and training in its use.

Electron Microscopy:

1.      JEOL transmission electron microscope 1200 EX ll equipped with an 11 megapixel AMT digital camera, model XR111.

2.      Reichert Jung Ultracut E microtome

Fluorescence Microscopy:

3.      Olympus BX50 upright microscope with a Spot RT Slider digital camera

4.      Nikon inverted fluorescent microscope

Confocal Microscopy:

5.      Zeiss 510 laser scanning confocal microscope, with 3 lasers and the META system, which uses spectral signature analysis to separate signal from up to 8 fluorochromes with highly overlapping emission spectra.
