Department of Internal Medicine
One of the largest departments in the school, Internal Medicine contains the Center for the Comprehensive Care of Immune Deficiency (C3ID), the Sleep Disorders Center, the Strelitz Diabetes Center, and the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology. The department's investigators and certified coordinators within these four Centers of Excellence have decades of experience conducting research trials.
The Glennan Center promotes wellness among the elderly and conducts research relevant to senior citizens. At the Diabetes Center, physicians and scientists provide comprehensive care and conduct research focused on minimizing complications from diabetes. Experts at C3ID, a part of the Division of Infectious Disease, specialize in the treatment of HIV. In addition to these Centers of Excellence, the department is home to the region's medical home and research hub for the care of sickle cell disease patients. The department is also among the leading treatment facilities for general internal medicine, pulmonary and critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology, allergy and immunology, rheumatology, nephrology and hematology.
To support the research endeavors of these groups, the department has a dedicated office which provides administrative assistance and professional development opportunities.

Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at EVMS encompasses several centers conducting research across the spectrum of women's health - the Clinical Research Center (CRC), CONRAD, the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine at EVMS, and the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Urogynecology division.
The CRC has conducted more than 250 clinical trials involving more than 10,000 participants since its establishment 1987, including every contraceptive on the U.S. market.
CONRAD has expanded its mission to a broader role in reproductive health with emphasis on prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, in developing countries, is testing new methods of preventing sexually transmitted disease, and the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine at EVMS, the nation's first in-vitro fertilization clinic, continues to explore new frontiers in reproductive medicine.
The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine's perinatal research program, unique in the Hampton Roads area, investigates new methods of diagnosis and new treatments aimed at ensuring the health of both mother and child. The Urogynecology division is conducting clinical trials on pelvic organ prolapse, stress urinary incontinence, and urge urinary incontinence.

Department of Pediatrics
The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) in the Department of Pediatrics at EVMS, an academic medical center, is a full-time, designated unit that provides all aspects of support for pediatric clinical research. The CRU is the result of a recent merger between Monarch Medical Research and the Center for Pediatric Research (CPR), both of which have had long and successful track records in pediatric research in the Hampton Roads region of southeastern Virginia.
The Department of Pediatrics Clinical Research Unit provides clinical research and regulatory support to over 60 pediatric subspecialties in the clinical and hospital setting. The EVMS Department of Pediatrics is headquartered at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, a free-standing, full-service pediatric health-care facility and teaching hospital licensed for 212 beds. Several of the subspecialties supported include gastrointestinal medicine, infectious disease, neurology, pulmonology, asthma, dermatology, sports medicine, nephrology, endocrinology and emergency medicine.
