Fetal Management
 Antepartum Fetal
Management is provided at three convenient outpatient locations
(Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Newport News), which are strategically
located in close proximity to Labor and Delivery units. The antenatal
fetal testing units are staffed by experienced perinatal RNs with
extensive fetal testing and monitoring experience.
Services include:
- Non-stress tests,
which include monitoring of the baby’s heart rate
- Assessment of
amniotic fluid volume using ultrasound
- Biophysical profile
assessments performed with ultrasound to evaluate the baby’s movement,
tone, and breathing exercises while in utero to access baby’s health
and placental function
- Contraction stress
tests to assess placenta function
- Doppler flow
studies assess blood flow in baby’s vessels, as well as in the
maternal uterine arteries, when indicated
- Amniocentesis
assesses fetal lung maturity prior to elective delivery, when
indicated
