Curriculum - Descriptions of Rotations
| Internal Medicine Inpatient
Service |
Residents rotate for one month on the
internal medicine inpatient service at
Sentara Norfolk General
Hospital (SNGH). Structure
By participating as internal medicine
residents, obstetrics and gynecology interns learn to recognize the
acutely ill patient, to refine individual patient evaluation and
management skills in the hospital setting, and to understand the
management of non-gynecologic medical problems in the inpatient setting
including asthma, congestive heart failure, hypertensive emergencies,
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, gastroenteritis, and inflammatory
bowel disease, and urinary tract disorders.
Teaching
Residents learn through internal medical
conferences, bedside teaching, and hands-on experience while caring for
patients on the inpatient internal medicine service.
Supervision
The internal medicine department assigns a
faculty member on a rotating basis to supervise resident activity.
