Obstetrics/Gynecology
Residency Program
Application Procedure
Thank you for your interest in our
program.
We participate fully in the National
Resident Matching Program and its
Electronic
Residency Application Service. We urge you to submit an application
through the NRMP ERAS for one of our four (4) PGY-1 categorical
positions in obstetrics and gynecology. As such, we cannot negotiate
with any candidate prior to the match that next occurs in mid-March
2008. We offer no pre-match positions.
We require that you have a passing
score on United States Medical Licensing
Examination (USMLE) Step 1 on your first attempt to be considered
for an interview; we require a passing score on USMLE Step 2 prior to
the Rank Order Match Certification deadline set by the NRMP.
You must have your ECFMG certificate at the time of application to our
program. We require a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation in
addition to your dean’s letter. Our deadline for receipt of applications
is usually the third Friday in November. We invite candidates to
interview here in Norfolk based on the entire application dossier. We
interview from mid-November through mid-January. Interviews are
scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Our institution supports J-1 visas only.
We adhere to American federal law, and thus do not discriminate based on
race, age, gender, or country of origin, given valid work permits to
work in the United States.
We do not offer observerships to prospective residents. No U.S.
observership/clinical experience is necessary to apply to our residency.
Medical students may complete an obstetrics and gynecology rotation
through our medical school.
We expect applicants to have a spoken and written mastery of English. We
accept no applicants who graduated from medical school more than eight
years prior to application.
After receiving your application through ERAS, the Residency Program
Administration reviews candidate materials and selects individuals who
qualify for interviews. Applicants selected for interviews will be
notified by e-mail to choose one of our interview dates in November
through January to visit our program. The interview day agenda consists
of program updates, tours, and individual interviews with the faculty
and residents.
The deadline for applications is November
21, 2008.
