New Assistant Dean will assist with curriculum reform

Senthil Kumar Rajasekaran, MD, has been appointed Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs at EVMS. He also will serve as a Professor of Physiological Sciences.
Prior to his arrival at EVMS, Dr. Rajasekaran was an Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester, MI. He also served as Dean of Basic Sciences, Professor and Chair of Pharmacology and Clinical Therapeutics at St. Matthew’s University, Grand Cayman.
"Dr. Rajasekaran has an outstanding national and international reputation and has been recognized by his peers for his expertise, experience, leadership and innovations in medical education and curriculum reform and redesign," Ron Flenner, MD, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, said in making the announcement.
He has published many abstracts and papers on the topic of medical education and has been the recipient of grants for medical education design. He has been an active participant on national committees, numerous symposia at regional and national levels and most recently developed and chaired a session on medication safety education and assessment at the Experimental Biology 2014 conference. A recipient of numerous awards for teaching excellence, leadership and curriculum design, Dr. Rajasekaran also established and served as Director of the Center for Excellence in Medical Education at St. Matthew’s University and Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Most recently, he has been asked to serve as the Senior Advisor for the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
In his role as Assistant Dean, Dr. Rajasekaran will provide administrative support and leadership to multiple efforts in curriculum reform, work with Course Directors and the Medical Education Committee and the Office of Education to facilitate integration, scheduling and opportunities to address ongoing mandates of the LCME.
