Dr. Jerry Nadler named Vice Dean for Research

Jerry L. Nadler, MD, FACP, FAHA, has been named to the newly created position of Vice Dean for Research at EVMS.
In addition to the new part-time position, Dr. Nadler will continue in his other roles as the Harry H. Mansbach Chair in Internal Medicine, and Professor and Chair of Internal Medicine and he will continue to provide oversight for the EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Center (SDC). Dr. Nadler had been Director of the SDC; Joseph Aloi, MD, is now Administrative Director of the center as well as its Clinical Director.
Richard V. Homan, MD, President and Provost of EVMS and Dean of the School of Medicine, appointed Dr. Nadler to the post.
“Dr. Nadler will provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for our research enterprise while seeking ways to strengthen our infrastructure, enhance our translational research capability and promote collaboration with our strategic partners,” Dr. Homan said.
William Wasilenko, PhD, Associate Dean for Research, will continue in his current role, maintaining leadership responsibility for all operational aspects of the Office of Research while working closely with Dr. Nadler on strategic initiatives.
Dr. Nadler is a productive researcher and mentor who oversees a multi-faceted research approach to diabetes and its complications. His extramurally funded principal research focus is to better understand the role of inflammation in the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The goal is to identify key targets leading to new ways to inhibit or even prevent the loss of pancreatic beta cell function and heart disease in people with diabetes.
Dr. Nadler came to EVMS in 2008 from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he was Chief of Endocrinology and Metabolism and Director of the Diabetes and Hormone Center of Excellence. Read more about Dr. Nadler.
