Initial Application The admissions process begins after a completed application is received from the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Electronic applications and the instructions for completing the AMCAS application can be accessed through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Web site at http://www.aamc.org/amcas/. This application contains information about the applicant, including a “personal comments” section and a record of the applicant’s academic performance. In addition to academic information, the application should include other “life” experiences such as health care exposures, volunteerism opportunities, and work employment history. Medical College Admissions Test The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is a computer-based exam which is offered multiple times throughout the year and must be taken by the prospective student before the application can be processed. Supplemental Application Once the prospective student's AMCAS application has been received by EVMS, the Admissions Office may request that a secondary application be completed. This application contains a supplemental questionnaire, a form for letters of evaluation and a form to determine whether the candidate can be considered a legal resident of Virginia. These materials, along with a $95 application fee, must be returned to EVMS within 30 days to keep the file active. If extenuating circumstances make it impossible for the applicant to meet this deadline, the Associate Dean for Admissions will consider requests for an extension. Deadlines For Applications Applications for regular admission may be submitted to EVMS through AMCAS between June 1 and November 15, although applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all application materials as early as possible. Early Decision EVMS participates in the Early Decision Program. The application period is June 1 through August 1, with applicants being notified of a decision no later than October 1. Early decision or not, all applicants are encouraged to submit materials to AMCAS and EVMS as early as possible. Applicants are strongly urged to contact the Office of Admissions prior to applying EDP. Once all the application materials are received, including an MCAT score, the applicant's file is reviewed by the admissions committee. Those applicants deemed competitive will be invited to the campus for an interview. Notification of Acceptance Applicants applying through the Early Decision Program (EDP) are notified as soon as possible, but no later than October 1. General pool applicants are notified on a “rolling admissions” basis beginning October 15. Applicants offered positions must respond to the letter from the Dean within two weeks of acceptance. This time may be shortened as the starting date for classes approaches. An applicant accepting a position at EVMS must sign and return the Conditions of Acceptance form and a $100 acceptance deposit (which will be applied toward tuition) to hold a place in the class. The acceptance deposit is refundable prior to May 15. Cost of Attendance Tuition and fees for the M.D. Program are announced in June of each academic year and are subject to change without notice. The cost of attendance is available in the Office of Financial Aid section of this Web site. International Students Foreign nationals are not eligible for federal financial aid due to foreign status, and may be issued a conditional acceptance under the following terms:

Only applicants who have completed one or more years in a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) can be considered for advanced standing into the second year. Transfer applicants for the third year of our curriculum must be currently enrolled in an AAMC-accredited medical school. Applicants must also take and pass Step I of the USMLE. The deadline for transfer application is April 1. Students can obtain additional information by writing to the Office of Admissions. |
