EVMS is a Provider for the National Library of Medicine’s Loansome Doc document delivery service!

Health care professionals using *PubMed may request delivery of articles through this NLM feature.  (*EVMS associates should use PubMed Linkout for more full-text access directly from the PubMed citation.)

Who may request Loansome Doc Service?
Health care professionals in the Hampton Roads area may register with the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) Library for Loansome Doc document delivery service. This service is limited to articles retrieved when searching PubMed.

Loansome Doc document delivery service provides:
Articles from journals in the EVMS library collection in the following formats:

• Photocopies for pick up at the library or by mail.
• Electronic scans of originals delivered to the requestor's desktop.

• Cost for items from the EVMS library is $0.15 per page plus a $2.00 surcharge on each transaction to cover account maintenance and billing costs.
• Articles from the EVMS Library collection are typically delivered on the same working day.
• A large number of requests for a single individual may be processed five (5) items at a time to ensure fair access to this service.

Articles not available in our library are obtained from other libraries as interlibrary loans (ILL).

• Costs for interlibrary loan documents are set by the institution providing the material and vary.
  • Requests from Virginia academic libraries are delivered at no charge through consortium agreement.
  • Requests filled by libraries outside Virginia generally cost $9-$15.
• The requestor can specify a cost limit; the default maximum is set at $15. The EVMS library adds a $2.00 surcharge to each transaction to cover account maintenance and billing costs.
• Interlibrary loan retrieval is typically 2-3 days but can take longer.

Bills are sent out monthly.

Registration
To receive Loansome Doc service through the EVMS Library:

• Register for EVMS Library services. Applications are available in the library or below. You must register through the EVMS Library to use Loansome Doc.
  • Registration form for EVMS associates
  • Registration form for non-EVMS clients
• Register for EVMS Library Loansome Doc service.
• Register for ILLiad document delivery service. (Required to retrieve articles through the library Web page.)

You will be notified and told how to proceed once registration has been completed.
