C3ID - Center for the Comprehensive Care of
Immune
Deficiency
The Research
Effort
Through research efforts
conducted at C3ID (see below), clients have the opportunity,
should they choose, to participate in exciting new trials of HIV
medications. While there is no cure in sight, new medications have greatly
improved the quality of life for most people with
HIV.
New medications pending FDA approval are
made available, often six months to a year in advance, from
pharmaceutical companies through research efforts at C3ID.
The Center is also a site for HIV clinical
trials being conducted by the National Institutes of Health under the
Community
Program for Clinical Research on AIDS (CPCRA). A
particular focus of the program is to reach persons who have previously
been underrepresented in HIV-related studies.
A clinical research
nurse assists the
physicians in following clients in these trials. Please
call LuAnn Gahagan, RN at (757) 446-7973 to find out more about the
studies open for enrollment.
