Norfolk, VirginiaThe Division of Community Health and Research in the
Department of Pediatrics invites nominations and applications from talented and
dynamic national leaders who will cultivate excellence in research, teaching and
service among a multidisciplinary faculty. This professorship is supported by an
endowed chair from the EVMS Foundation. The Division includes seven faculty
members and 25 research associates, assistants and outreach staff. The
Department collaborates extensively with the Sentara Health System and
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, which are co-located on the campus.
Norfolk is a historic port city centrally located on the mid-Atlantic coast that
is rich in southern hospitality, maritime history and cultural and recreational
attractions. Norfolk enjoys a temperate mid-Atlantic climate moderated by its
proximity to the Gulf Stream with approximately 237 days of sunshine annually.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
- a completed Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in Public Health,
Preventive Medicine, Health Psychology or related field and qualifying as a
full professor
- evidence of outstanding university-level teaching experience
- strong record of extramural grant funding as a principal investigator
- evidence of peer-review publication
- active professional membership in discipline-related organizations
- research experience that includes experience with special populations
and the development and dissemination of clinical and/or community
interventions
Responsibilities
The Division Director Chair will be expected to contribute to excellence in the
Department by furthering its missions of teaching, research and service. The
candidate will be expected to:
- teach courses in the Graduate
Program in Public
Health
- mentor and advise faculty, staff and students
- conduct independent and collaborative research that is supported by
extramural funding
- publish research
- perform relevant University and professional service
- work in partnership with diverse populations.
We desire a candidate who takes a collegial approach to academic leadership.
