Rotations for the Surgical Assistant
program occur at these locations: |

Sentara
Norfolk General Hospital has 644 beds and is the major
tertiary care hospital for the Hampton Roads region. |

Sentara
Leigh Hospital has 256 beds. The surgical service is
composed of private patients, providing a broad educational and
clinical experience in the field of general surgery. |

Sentara Bayside Hospital has 230 beds. The surgical service
is composed of private patients, providing experience in general
surgery and surgical specialties such as vascular surgery,
orthopedics, and gynecology. |

Children's
Hospital of The King's Daughters, Norfolk
has 156 beds, providing care to patients ranging in age from birth
to 20. Among the services at CHKD are a 28-bed Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit, an eight-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, an 18-bed
Adolescent Unit, a 10-bed Infectious Disease Unit, and emergency
room facilities. There are 36,000 children treated annually in the
general and specialty outpatient clinics. |

Established as an eight-room infirmary to treat yellow
fever victims in the late 1850s, Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center
has grown into a highly respected 366-bed acute care facility serving
Norfolk. DePaul is a major teaching site for EVMS. |

Obici Hospital, a 138-bed
state-of-the-art facility, is located on Godwin Boulevard in Suffolk.
Opened in April 2002, the new facility continues a 50-year tradition of
providing residents of Suffolk and Western Tidewater with
patient-centered care in an environment that focuses on healing. The
surgical service is composed of private patients, providing experience
in general surgery and surgical specialties.
