Graduate Certificate Program Curriculum

Graduate Certificate Program Credit Hours = 63

Students enrolled in the 63-credit-hour Graduate Certificate Program will complete 33 credits of didactic training and 30 credits during the clinical year. The Graduate Certificate Program includes an additional 2 credits of didactic training (Advance Topics of Surgical Assisting-Parts 1 and 2) and an additional 6 credits during the clinical year (Special Topics in Surgical Assisting: 2 credits, Surgical Assisting Capstone course: 2 credits and a Trauma rotation: 2 credits).

1,500 hours of clinical experience with up to 25% of training in surgical specialty such as Orthopedics, Plastics, Cardiac, Vascular, and Neurological (Trauma SA - 754 - 2 credit hours)

Lecture/discussion seminars directed by the SA Program Medical Director about current surgery techniques.

As part of the journal club, students in clinical will prepare and submit case reports on cases that they performed during clinical training.

Independent study student project course. Students develop educational resources products for the contribution the Surgical Assistant program’s student resource library.
