Surgical Assistant
Graduate
Certificate Program Admissions Criteria
Individuals must have at minimum a four-year degree. All individuals
must satisfy the admission requirements.
Competitive
candidates will:
- have at least a
baccalaureate degree in biology, chemistry, nursing, exercise
science or allied heath; if degree is not in one of these fields of
study, applicant must have completed all of the program prerequisites
listed in Table 1
- have a cumulative
grade point average of 2.75 (B-) or better
- prior medical and/or operating room experience is
highly desired; however, it is not a prerequisite
The abilities and skills candidates and
students must possess in order to complete the education and
training associated with surgical assistant education are referred to
as “Technical Standards.” These abilities and skills are essential
for clinical practice as a surgical assistant.

Courses
All
prerequisites must be completed with a B- or better for acceptance.
