Am I required to have a research
mentor/advisor to apply for the program? |

No. The dissertation mentor is
selected at the end of the first year of studies. Laboratory
rotations will assist the student in choosing an advisor. |

Will I receive a stipend and a tuition
waiver? |

If accepted into the program,
students will receive a competitive stipend ($23,000 per year
for 2008-2009) and a tuition waiver. |

What criteria are used to evaluate
applicants for admission into the program? |

In addition to the
admission
requirements, the following factors are
very important: past research
experience and demonstrating strong motivation for a research career. |

How many years does it take to
complete the program? |

Completion of a Ph.D. program
requires a significant amount of time and effort. The average
student completes the program in 5 to 6 years; the amount of effort
invested by the individual student and previous experience are major determinants. |
