Newly established in 2002, the goal of the residency program is to produce excellent clinical dermatologists who are prepared to enter the practice of dermatology or a specialty fellowship program. General DescriptionResidents divide their time between clinical rotations at the Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center, Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Eastern Virginia Dermatology Department, Pariser Dermatology Specialists, Inc., and the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. In addition to seeing a wealth of general clinical dermatology patients, residents rotate in Pediatric Dermatology Clinic, and work with a dermatologist who has extensive training and experience in surgical dermatology. CurriculumThe educational program includes the following:
• Monday afternoon resident conference • Dermatology textbook review • Bimonthly grand rounds • Bimonthly journal review • Weekly dermatopathology textbook review and unknown slide conference
Residents attend many regional Dermatology society meetings throughout the year, the Indiana University Cutaneous Basic Science Conference and the annual meeting of the American Academy of the Dermatology.
Working with faculty members, residents are expected to complete a chapter or original paper each year.
