Combined Geriatrics-Internal Medicine Residency Program (Ger-IMed)

Why Ger-IMed?

As the population over the age of 65 increases, their medical needs continue to change as well. The average 75-year-old has three chronic medical problems and regularly uses five prescription medications, as well as over-the-counter drugs. With aging come changes in the way the body metabolizes, absorbs and clears those medications. Older people also have very atypical presentations for common illnesses.

These patients often require a different approach than patients with similar conditions who are younger. This program will help physicians distinguish the differences and improve primary care for older adults.

If you would like more information on this exciting new program, please contact Marissa C. Galicia-Castillo, M.D.
