Residency Programs

Faculty support residency training for various departments within Eastern Virginia Medical including Internal Medicine, Family and Community Medicine, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Ob/Gyn. Complex clinical cases and lectures on geriatric evaluation, frailty, sensory impairment, dementia, non-pharmacologic management of behavioral disorders, incontinence, osteoporosis, and ethical issues assist other departments to fulfill geriatric course requirements.

  • Residents rotate through a variety of clinical settings supervised by geriatricians. Clinical sites include rehabilitation or long-term care facilities, and consultation clinics (Memory Assessment).
  • Faculty and staff will assist residents with laboratory research or clinical research projects, mentoring in the following areas:
    • hypothesis development
    • project design and development
    • IRB application and approval
    • data collection and analysis
    • publication
