EVMS-Administered Scholarships

 

EVMS-administered scholarships are awarded to the "neediest" of students and to students who meet specific criteria established by the donor of each scholarship. Students who want to be considered for EVMS-administered scholarships MUST:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA, www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • Complete and Submit the EVMS Financial Aid Application
  • Complete and Submit the EVMS Supplemental Scholarship Application

Deadline Date for EVMS FA Application and Supplemental Scholarship Application

  • Returning Students:  Thursday, April 1, 2010
  • Newly Accepted Students: Thursday, April 15, 2010

Eligibility criteria reflects donor intent and awards are contingent on acceptance from EVMS.

M. Kirwan King, M.D. Scholarship

-Preference is given to residents of Westmoreland, Richmond county, Northumberland or Lancaster counties or any city or town in the northern neck of Virginia

-Show potential promise as a physician

-Must demonstrate financial need

 

Thurston Medical Scholarship

- Preference given to Virginia Military Institute graduate

-Otherwise based only on financial need

T. Ray Hassell Memorial Endowed Scholarship

-Must demonstrate meaningful ties to the city of Chesapeake by either being born, raised, educated or other means

-Must demonstrate financial need

-This is a 4 year scholarship

Donna and Joseph Mehfoud Scholarship

-Resident of Virginia

-For entering MD student

-Must demonstrate financial need

-Preference is given to a married student, especially with children.

- Scholarship applied to 3rd year tuition

-Should there not be an eligible candidate meeting the above criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student.

-A minimum science GPA of 3.2 and competitive MCAT scores.

-Evidence of participation in collegiate organizations/activities.

-Demonstrated leadership, community service, and exposure to medicine.
