EVMS Office of Financial Aid: Applying for Loans Print E-mail
Share

Students are responsible for deciding which lender to use for student financial aid. Students may select as their choice any lender from the available choices in the financial aid field. The EVMS Student Financial Aid Office also has available information regarding lenders students have used in the past. EVMS does not recommend lenders to students.

Any questions or concerns regarding student financial aid will be answered promptly by the Student Financial Aid Office or the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Each student should carefully evaluate his or her projected financial needs for the academic year and borrow accordingly, without exceeding the limits established by the student budget and the student's own financial need. Once the student receives an award letter, the student can then apply for funds.

Federal Stafford Loans

Students receiving Stafford and Graduate Plus loans must complete the duplicate copy of their award letter marked “Office of Financial Aid Copy” and return it to the Office of Financial Aid at their earliest convenience.

Also, first-time borrowers must complete a Master Promissory Note for the lender of their choice.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loan

Students who need additional funds to meet the gap between aid awarded and the cost of attendance may apply for a Federal Graduate PLUS loan. This loan is based on credit readiness and there is a pre-approval process prior to completing the Master Promissory Note.

EVMS-administered Loans

Students awarded EVMS-administered loans must complete an EVMS Promissory Note that is sent with the award letter.

Alternative/Private Loans

Students who are not eligible for a Federal Graduate PLUS loan may apply for a private loan to meet the gap between aid awarded and the cost of attendance.

Students must submit the application online. The servicer will contact EVMS when all materials have been received from the student. EVMS will then certify the student's eligibility for the private loan so that funds can be disbursed.
