  • James P. Charlton, MD Teacher of the Year Award in Family Medicine (2003), given by Virginia Academy of Family Physicians
  • James P. Charlton, MD Teacher of the Year Award in Family Medicine (2002), given by Virginia Academy of Family Physicians
  • Mead Johnson Award for Graduate Medical Education in Family Practice (2000), given by American Academy of Family Physicians
  • Unsung Hero Award (2002), given by the Virginia Health Care Foundation
  • Partners in Healing Award (1998, 1997, 1995), given by the Bon Secours Healthcare System to the physician who best exemplifies the ability to care for the body, mind, and spirit of patients
  • State Coordinator for TAR WARS program (1997 - 2000)
  • Presenter, Annual Scientific Assembly of the American Academy of Family Physicians (2000): "Polypharmacy and the elderly: Do we really know what our patients are taking?", one of six national finalists chosen to present original resident research
