Achievements and Scholarly Activities
Ghent Family Medicine has been my professional home for over twenty-five years. I have had the singular privilege of working with many residents over that span of time. I will echo the sentiment of our Mission Statement that “diversity is our strength.” The residents are our greatest asset.

Our graduates practice the entire spectrum of Family Medicine, here at home as well as in other parts of the world. To train and support the residents, we have a dedicated faculty with diverse skills in areas germane to family practice.

The Family Medicine Center on the medical school campus, where residents and faculty practice together, is the focus of our resident training. Teaching and scholarly activities are strongly encouraged as means of elevating the learning experience of the residents. Our residents interact with medical students and engage in teaching in the ambulatory center and on our own inpatient service. Our patient population is representative of our community.

In the spring of 2004, our ambulatory center began the implementation of Electronic Medical Records. We are now well integrated in the electronic health system and interphased with our teaching hospital and other departments within the medical school. The administrative staff is integral in providing our residents with practice management skills. Thus our curriculum combines the academic stimulation of a university program with the rich resources of the community.

The Chinese say, “May you live in interesting times.” These are certainly interesting and challenging times for Family Medicine. My primary goal as program director is to incorporate all our resources to meet the needs of the residents and ensure the high quality of the education necessary to meet the challenges of our specialty. Ghent Family Medicine has been a great source of personal pride. I believe we have an excellent program for individuals who are attracted to our environment.

Ben Eng, M.D., Program Director
