Software Support
The Computer Lab offers and supports word-processing,
spreadsheet, graphic, and computer-assisted instruction software. During
library hours, staff will assist
clients in using the major software packages that exist. The staff will make efforts to help with other software but cannot be
expected to be familiar with all programs.
Software Copyright/Licensing Issues
Copying lab software is a violation of licensing
agreements and is strictly forbidden.
Programs that have been illegally copied, altered, or
that violate the product's agreement will not be supported by the computer lab. Unless
authorized by lab staff, software installed on workstation hard drives or the LAN will be
promptly removed.
Storage of Data
Data generated by software should be saved onto floppy
diskettes, CDs, flash drives, or network folders available through
Sinapse (student portal) and not on the workstations' hard drives. Files stored on lab computers
are deleted at logout.
If uncertain about the location of stored data, users
should ask lab staff to verify that it is on their diskette. As an exceptional service to
cover emergencies, a limited number of diskettes are stocked for purchase at the Library
Circulation Desk.
The Computer
Laboratory assumes no responsibility for lost, damaged, or deleted data.
Computer Viruses
Viruses can corrupt or delete data and make it
unrecoverable. All computers in the computer lab have been equipped with software to
protect clients against computer viruses. Users should report messages indicating the
presence of a virus to lab staff immediately.
