Ask
a Librarian
Information Desk
The Information Desk on the first floor is staffed by
librarians nine hours a day, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5
p.m. Please call us at (757) 446-5851 or email us at library@evms.edu.
The librarians will help you
- find quick factual information
- conduct subject research
- compile bibliographies
- learn how to use Library resources
- learn your way around the Library
When the Information Desk is not staffed, the circulation
staff is available for basic reference assistance.
Databases
The Library subscribes to a variety of bibliographic and
full-text databases. For a list of the resources available for EVMS
users to search on campus via the Library’s Web site, please see
Databases.
Library staff can provide assistance in learning to use these databases.
Search Requests
The library staff can search the electronic resources available for
direct searching by EVMS users and other databases for you.
The reference librarians are trained to analyze
complex questions and formulate search strategies. Discussion with the
reference librarian will clarify the request and enhance the value of
the results for complex search requests.
To request a search:
- fill out a request form
with a reference librarian at the Information Desk, or
- call (757) 446-5851 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Completed searches may be picked up at the Circulation Desk
or sent to the requestor via campus mail or email.
Computer searches are provided without charge to EVMS
faculty, staff, students and honorary clients. Other registered clients
are billed
directly on a cost recovery basis; members of the public must pay in
advance.
Charges (non-EVMS faculty, staff, and students)
The charge for any librarian-conducted computer search is
$25 plus any additional costs incurred.
