EVMS: Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning Print E-mail
Share

The EVMS: Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning boasts seventeen state-of-the-art exam rooms, which can be redesigned as standard offices for simulated interviews and non-medical interactions. With 30,000 square feet, they are large enough to accommodate small group learners, yet small enough to maintain one-on-one patient-centered learning and assessments.

Each room is supplied with:

  • Two wall - mounted remote-controlled pan/tilt/zoom digital networked cameras with hidden microphones
  • Blood pressure cuff and diagnostic equipment
  • Standard exam table
  • Networked Desktop computer & desk

Centrally located is the Observation Suite, offering a comfortable place to observe encounters - live- in anyone of the 17 exam rooms.  Each observation station has a networked desktop computer, and allows a user to not only observe an encounter but also take notes within the Meti Learning Space database software.

The center's fully digital environment means observing case encounters has never been easier, and more dynamic. Live observation of any of the 17 exam rooms can occur from any on-campus computer.  This allows adaptation to newer training scenarios seamlessly.

Production Studio:

The Center also offers the services of it's fully HD-capable media production studio. This studio, under the skilled supervision of our media specialist, is utilized for the creation of professional grade training videos. From this room we also video stream live training sessions to any of the campus auditoriums for training.  This video creation service can also go "on-location" to capture situations that can't be brought to the Center.

Technology:

The Center uses Meti Learning Space, an easy-to-use, Web-based software system that efficiently manages the complex processes of operating a Simulation Center.
