Professional Education
- Endocrinology Fellowship Program
The Endocrinology Fellowship Program is a fully accredited two-year program leading to eligibility for certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Subspecialty of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. The Department seeks individuals who have excelled in all aspects of undergraduate and graduate medical training. This includes courses in basic science and clinical medicine, standardized examinations, and research, as well as participation in valuable medical and non-medical extracurricular activities.
- Residency Opportunities in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism
Residents on Endocrinology/Metabolism rotation have the opportunity to see patients at the internationally known Strelitz Diabetes Center. In addition to its clinical expertise, the Diabetes Center is home to some of the most innovative endocrinology research in the United States. In this elective, in addition to extensive ambulatory experience with top endocrinologists, several of whom are leaders in their field, residents will gain great knowledge from an inpatient consultative component.
- Endocrine Grand Rounds Calendar
The weekly Endocrine Grand Rounds bring together professionals from throughout the medical school and the community to learn from nationally renowned researchers, clinicians and educators. In conjunction with these visiting experts, one-on-one sessions with local faculty and interactive roundtable sessions with researchers encourage the exchange of ideas and forge bonds for future collaborations.
Diabetes Community Education
Community education outreach is also extended through the Strelitz Diabetes Center’s participation at regional health fairs and diabetes screenings. Health fairs give the public an opportunity to talk with a team of SDC health-care providers, which may include a physician, nurse educators, dietitian and clinical researchers.
SDC also joins forces with other diabetes organizations, such as the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, providing blood sugar and neuropathy screenings at their walk-a-thons and bike-a-thons.
To fulfill our goal of providing diabetes patient education, we provide information about diabetes prevention and treatment, including food plans for healthy eating, recipes and exercise recommendations.
