Strategic Planning

The EVMS Strategic Plan was approved by the EVMS Board of Visitors on May 14, 2002. Begun in April 2001, the strategic planning effort's goal was to develop a new Strategic Plan that the Board of Visitors would endorse that would guide EVMS' development during the next three to five years. The Annual Assessment of Institutional Performance, published April 2009, concludes that the 2002 Strategic Plan and its subsequent revisions have been fully implemented. Further reports on strategic progress will emanate from the 2009 Strategic Plan, which is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2009.

Publications

The OVPPHP publishes the “Annual Assessment of Institutional Performance” which includes the “Report on Strategic Progress” the “Report on Performance Trends” and the annual “EVMS Fact Book,” a report that provides a statistical review of the institution and an inventory of research projects taking place at EVMS.

Governmental and Community Relations

The Vice Provost for Planning and Health Professions serves as the principal advocate for EVMS with the local, state, and federal governments. In addition, OVPPHP acts as EVMS' liaison with other academic institutions, health components of U.S./state/local governments and economic development groups.

As a part of new procedural guidelines by the Department of Planning & Budget for the Commonwealth, all agencies requesting funding from the Commonwealth are required to update their Strategic and Service Area Plans based on the Governor's introduced budget and post their plan on their Web site.

Program Development

OVPPHP takes the lead in or supports the development of new programs at EVMS. For instance, the department developed the Graduate Program in Public Health with Old Dominion University and the Eastern Virginia Telemedicine Network with health care providers at EVMS and on the Eastern Shore.

In addition, OVPPHP has established a community-based primary health care partnership with the Republic of Moldova. The purpose of this partnership is to jointly create primary care centers with educational resources for staff and patient education.

Specialty Reports

OVPPHP leads the self-study process for reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME). The SACS self-study addresses all EVMS programs, whereas the LCME self-study focused primarily on the medical education program of EVMS.

Outreach Programs

OVPPHP is responsible for directing community outreach programs such as the Eastern Virginia Area Health Education Center (EVAHEC) and the Eastern Virginia Regional Perinatal Coordinating Council (EVRPCC).
