QAm I required to have a research mentor/advisor to apply for the program?

ANo. The dissertation mentor is selected at the end of the first year of studies. Laboratory rotations will assist the student in choosing an advisor.

QWill I receive a stipend and a tuition waiver?

AIf accepted into the program, students will receive a competitive stipend ($24,000 per year for 2009-2010) and a tuition waiver.

QCan I apply for financial aid?

AAll students can still apply for financial aid through the EVMS Office of Financial Aid.

QWhat criteria are used to evaluate applicants for admission into the program?

AIn addition to the admission requirements, the following factors are very important: past research experience and demonstrating strong motivation for a research career.

QHow many years does it take to complete the program?

ACompletion of a Ph.D. program requires a significant amount of time and effort. The average student completes the program in 5 to 6 years; the amount of effort invested by the individual student and previous experience are major determinants.
