This is the premiere professional organization of Physician Assistants. The Academy provides a wealth of membership benefits to help you in serving your patients, your community, and your profession. For more information visit www.aapa.org.

Student Academy of the American Academy of Physician Assistant (SAAAPA)

The society gives PA students the chance to interact with other students who have the same interests. This goal of the organization is to meet other students in a social atmosphere; educate others about the PA profession; and improving the community with projects. The student society provides a way for you to get involved with your peers, the PA profession, and the community. www.saaapa.aapa.org

Christian Medical Association

The Christian Medical Association’s mission is to motivate, educate, and equip Christian physicians and dentists to glorify God by:

  • living out the character of Christ in their homes, practices, communities and around the world;
  • pursuing professional competence and Christ-like compassion in their daily work;
  • influencing their families, colleagues, and patients toward a right relationship with Jesus Christ;
  • advancing Biblical principles in bioethics and health to the Church and society.

Dermatology Club (Derm Club)

The dermatology club aims to provide some insight from clinicians, professors, and even your fellow students about the ins and outs of this broad, exciting, and ever-changing medical specialty. Look out for upcoming lunches and seminars on topics about everything from different aspects of the field of dermatology to the best ways to approach the increasingly competitive dermatology residency match.

Emergency Medicine Club (EMIG)

The Emergency Medicine club is geared towards introducing students to this exciting specialty as well as advising those already interested. We often host lunch meetings with EM clinical professionals, as well as procedural workshops focusing on suturing, IV placement, and so forth. The club also organizes social events with Emergency Medicine department residents and attendings.

EVMS American Red Cross Club (Red Cross)

For more than 50 years, the American Red Cross has remained an innovator and leader in transfusion medicine and research. Started as a war relief effort to provide lifesaving blood for soldiers during World War II, American Red Cross Blood Services collects and distributes half of the nation's blood supply, providing blood products that are as safe and reliable as possible. The American Red Cross has set new standards for safety and quality and is touching more lives than ever before.

EVMS Sports Authority (IM Sports)

This club organizes all of EVMS’s intramural sports teams. Check the site to see which IM sports are playing during the year, who the team captains are, and when the games are scheduled.

Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)

Our group is dedicated to promoting family medicine and primary care in general as a career choice, by providing information on subspecialties, residency prerequisites, etc. We hold regular lunch meetings with topics relevant to important issues in family medicine, and have dinners with residency programs from across the state. We also participate in many outreach and community service events through both EVMS and the community.

Geriatrics Club (SAGE)

The Geriatrics Club is committed to educating students about medical care in the aging population. The focus of the club is on promoting awareness of medical issues of the geriatric population and emphasing the role of the geriatric patient in all fields of medicine.

Internal Medicine Club (IM Club)

This group is for students who are interested in learning more about Internal Medicine. Activities include lunch time talks by physicians and residents about their specialty.

International Medicine Club (IMS)

The International Medicine Club works to increase the awareness and accessibility of international health opportunities for all EVMS students. We have speakers on a number of international health topics, and help to connect students with international internships and electives.
Maryview Health Outreach Partnership with EVMS (MY HOPE Clinic)
This group is for volunteers at the MY HOPE Clinic. The MY HOPE Clinic is a student run clinic that is operated out of the Maryview Free Clinic. Every Tuesday evening the EVMS students take over and help treat the uninsured population of Portsmouth.

Norfolk Emergency Shelter Team (NEST)

NEST is a community organization that provides shelter and food for the homeless during the winter months. EVMS hosts one week during each season, traditionally using St. Andrew's Church on Princess Anne as a shelter site. Students and faculty work together to provide dinner, breakfast and bag lunches for approximately 50 overnight guests. Student volunteers organize the event and staff sign-in, dinner setup and overnight shifts.

Obstetrics-Gynecology Club (OB-GYN)

Are you interested in Ob-Gyn? We have several lunch meetings each year where we have 4th year students, residents, and physicians speak with us about their experiences.

Operation Smile (Op Smile)

Throughout the world, Operation Smile volunteers repair childhood facial deformities while building public and private partnerships that advocate for sustainable healthcare systems for children and families. Together, we create smiles, change lives, heal humanity.

In addition to lunch lectures, there are monthly organization meetings, an annual conference, and multiple volunteer opportunities.

Pediatrics Club (Peds Club)

The EVMS Pediatrics Club serves to educate students about the practice of pediatrics and of its subspecialties. Meetings will center on bringing in physicians of various pediatric subspecialties to share their experiences. Shadowing opportunities are made available to members. Community service initiatives include participation in Community Care Day, the Diabetic Candy Exchange and an Angel Tree Holiday Party for a local shelter.

Surgery Club

The surgery club is designed for those who are interested in learning more about surgery. The club has speakers come and talk about surgery, how to get into surgical residencies, and the many different surgical subspecialties that are available.
