Surgical Assistant Certificate Program

Individuals who would like to be admitted to this program must be certified surgical technologists with at least three years of work experience and have an associate's degree in science and/or allied health, or have prior military medical training and work experience. All individuals must satisfy the admission requirements.

A competitive candidate will:

  • be certified surgical technologists with at least three years of work experience, have an associate’s degree in science and/or allied health with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 (B-) or better and have completed all of the program prerequisites listed in Table 1, below
  • or have prior military medical training/work experience and have completed all of the program prerequisites listed in Table 1, below

The abilities and skills candidates and students must possess in order to complete the education and training associated with surgical assistant education are referred to as Technical Standards. These abilities and skills are essential for clinical practice as a surgical assistant.

Prerequisite Courses

All prerequisites must be completed within the past ten years with a B- or better for acceptance.
