Breastfeeding program honors local employers and individuals

Story Date: Fri, 03 Aug 2012 20:45:00 EDT

The Consortium for Infant and Child Health (CINCH) is honoring several employers and individuals for their efforts to support breastfeeding mothers in the workplace.

At an August 3 awards ceremony, 17 employers received Business Investment in Babies (BIB) Awards for their participation in the Business Case for Breastfeeding program. Individuals and other employers also were honored. CINCH, a regional child health coalition sponsored by EVMS, received funding from the Virginia Department of Health to implement the Business Case for Breastfeeding program.

CINCH worked with 17 Hampton Roads employers in implementing the Business Case for Breastfeeding program. The employers participated at a variety of levels, adopting written policies, drafting lactation room procedures and/or establishing and furnishing lactation rooms where mothers can go for privacy. Two hospital systems adopted nursing mother policies that influence their operations at facilities throughout Virginia.

The CINCH program, adapted from an approach designed for use within a single company, is the largest community based intervention of its kind in the nation.

The honorees are:
