Geriatric Experience Goals

  1. Provide patient care experiences to enhance development of students’ clinical skills, focusing primarily on the medical interview, communication and physical diagnosis skills.
  2. Offer opportunities to assess problems common in the older rehabilitation and nursing home resident such as cognitive impairment, loss of function, difficulty adjusting to chronic disease, and loss of autonomy.
  3. Develop skills in presenting patient data to preceptor in a clear, organized manner and in formulating an appropriate assessment and problem list.
  4. Introduce the rehabilitation and nursing center’s complex mission in the continuum of long term care for frail, chronically and acutely ill older patients.

Students must attend both Thursday sessions, the entire time, on their assigned days to receive credit for the course. The tight schedule does not permit our faculty to add additional days in order for you to make up the class. Please do not substitute or deviate from your assigned date.

PROPER CLINICAL DRESS IS REQUIRED. PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES.
