There are four good sources for help with CPAP:
- The Sleep Disorders Center (DSM): Do not hesitate to schedule an office visit to discuss problems.
- Home health companies: Answers to technical and equipment questions are best obtained from the home health company. The company that provided the CPAP unit can also provide equipment checkups, chin straps, humidifiers, different size headgear and masks.
- The primary care physician: For HMO patients, the primary care physician is the first place to seek help for a non-technical problem. Even for non-HMO insurance coverage, the primary care physician may be of great help in sorting out problems such as headaches and shortness of breath.
- An otolaryngologist: Most ear, nose and throat doctors are very knowledgeable about sleep apnea. Not only may they be able to offer an alternative treatment, they can help with some side effects that may occur with use of CPAP such as nasal irritation and congestion.
